A firm biscuit great for shortcakes.
Biscuits From Heaven
Ingredients
- 1¾ cup ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
- ¾ cup BUTTERMILK
- 6 tablespoons BUTTER
- 1½ tablespoons SUGAR
- ½ teaspoon SALT
- 1¼ teaspoon BAKING POWDER
- ¼ teaspoon BAKING SODA
- 3 tablespoons WARM WATER
- ¾ teaspoon DRY YEAST
Instructions
- ) Preheat oven to 425 degrees
- ) Soften the yeast in the warm water for about 5 minutes/yeast will foam
- ) Add the buttermilk and butter to the yeast----set aside
- ) Sift together all the dry ingredients---flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and sugar
- ) Make a hole in the center of the flour mix and add the yeast/ buttermilk
- ) Stir until dough is just moistened.
- ) Transfer dough to lightly floured surface, shape into a ball and knead two or 3 times
- ) Press the dough flat to a ½ inch thickness and cut out 2 inch biscuits
- ) Place biscuits on greased or cooking sprayed baking sheet
- ) Let rise for about 20 minutes until they are nearly doubled in size
- ) Bake until golden brown 12 to 14 minutes
- ) Eat and then you will know why they are called biscuits from heaven
