There’s clue to the title in the coffee cups, but I will admit it’s a scavenger hunt clue. These LeSouk Ceramique cups, which are handmade in Tunisia, appear to be on the verge of ‘tumbling’ over. My iced chocolate chai coffee is made in a tumbler. Okay okay, I will admit it’s lame. But my website doesn’t feature glassware, so this is THE best I could do.
I was flushed with success, when I sat down to write this. In my last post I shared my lamentable experience of creating a delicious non-reproducible soup recipe, because two of my sub-personalities took over. Both of whom are not of the measuring type. This time my Good Girl sub-personality (wo)manned the helm along with my Queen. Boy howdy no one crosses the Queen.
I make my morning coffee in a French Press. This is an excellent way to brew coffee, so when I don’t drink it all in the morning I am hard pressed (yes the pun was intended) to throw it out. So I don’t. Often during warm weather, it gets reprocessed into iced chocolate chai coffee, which I enjoy enormously while decompressing from work on my deck.
Mama Goose’s MEASURED Iced Chocolate Chai Coffee Recipe
My chocolate chai mix for one 16 oz glass tumbler is:
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
2 tablespoons chocolate Ovaltine
I put 3 ice cubes into a 16 oz tumbler
Add the chocolate chai spices
Pour in 1 cup cold coffee
Stir
Pour in 1/2 cup milk—half & half makes a truly decadent drink
Stir again
Drink with pleasure
Wait a minute I hear you say, what’s all of this have to do with round bottoms? Well if you drink these consistently with half and half, you probably don’t have to ask that question. But assuming you don’t——-
I was curious as to why a glass was called a tumbler. I checked with my encyclogoogle and discovered there are a variety of answers. However it appears that in the 17th century glasses had rounded bottoms, such that you couldn’t set them down without them tumbling over. It is uncertain whether this was to due to glass making techniques at the time or simply a way to inspire people to imbibe more, since they had to finish the drink in order to set it down.
It’s this kind of quality information which makes me a popular party guest. Thank you Encyclogoogle.

Hey, you are like me. It really really makes a difference to me to have a wonderful interesting plates, cups, glasses etc, when I eat. Too many gorgeous items out there. Take a look at my Tea ware tab. LeSouk
has some lovely designs. In fact they just added two, which I need to get on my site. Another thing to put on the ‘To Do’ list. Lol.

My photography skills are sucky. Next on my skill improvement list. Food photos are a whole other world, as well you know. I have to get the lighting situation under control. Soon your wish will be fulfilled, my princess. Lol

Thank you Robyn. Those mugs and all the LeSouk teaware make me feel so global. It startles me that here is something handcrafted in Africa. And here I am with them in my own backyard—-well in my cupboard actually.

Yep—-since they are from Africa—some kind of dish from there would be pretty cool. And it is a lovely drink of a hot day. I had one last evening out on my deck.

I love this post and your recipe for chocolate chai coffee sounds great! 🙂 I have a French press and will get right on this…. once I get home from my hotel stay in Vicksburg (due to husband’s work). Of course I left my French press in New Orleans…. I feel a blues song coming on. 😉 Which reminds me to compliment you on those lovely blue coffee cups pictured above. So unique and beautiful!
Carol says
I have a plastic French press to go traveling with. Maybe its my imagination, but I don’t think the coffee tastes the same as making the coffee in a glass press. Yeah Baby, let’s open up the channel and let that blues song pour forth. It’s on my bucket list to make it to New Orleans. Now I have a source for what the secret places are that I should go to. Ha!

Well you let me know whenever you’re ready to come to New Orleans, and I’ll be glad to give you tips, pointers, ideas and even a personal tour!! 🙂
