I read a LOT. My TV suffers from abandonment issues, as the months accumulate between times I click the on button. Netflix and Amazon get action via my computer. To access movies, movies, movies is still fairy tale amazing, since I grew up only seeing one or two movies a year. However, I do have to bow my head and whisper a confession. When The Voice comes on, so does my TV.
So why are you sharing this trivia, you ask. Do we care what your viewing habits are?
To make a point, I answer.
But you find making points rather tedious might be your accurate reply.
This is true, so I will get to it. I read so much that stories blur together or melt into oblivion like Frosty on a hot day. However this wasn’t the case with a novel I read a couple of years ago called ‘Nowhere But Home’ by Liza Palmer. The main character, Queenie, is a chef who was fired (again) and ended up back in a small town. So far not too startling. However, she ends up cooking the final meals for prisoners who are about to be executed. Her task sounds simple enough, but it wasn’t of course.
That premise imprinted on my primitive foodie brain . So recently I queried myself and four other people I’m close to what would be their final suppers. You think you know someone——wrong.
Son #2 sometimes finds decision making an effort, but when I posed THE question he fired off an answer right away.
Deluxe shredded beef nachos with lots of quality guacamole and a cold beer.
A good friend with an eclectic palate chose —-
Medium rare steak, potato chunks in a secret buttermilk spiced sauce she had last year at Dupuis, a restaurant in Port Angeles, Wa. For dessert a quality berry ice cream.
Son #1 shocked me with his choices just like Son #2 did. I would have never ever guessed the choices with either son.
Grilled lamb chops with grilled asparagus and corn. Lamb chops and asparagus????? Plus this boy is a pie consumer. So a piece of strawberry rhubarb pie and another piece of blackberry pie.
A male friend of a certain age chose a meal more in keeping with a male on the other end of the age spectrum.
A Red Robin Banzai burger (features teriyaki and pineapple), onion rings and a chocolate shake.
Me???? After careful consideration and agonizing indecision I decided this.
Roast pork, not the loin but the shoulder, mashed potatoes and gravy and crab and avocado salad. What is still keeping me awake at nights is the dessert. I’m torn between creamy pumpkin cheesecake and hot apple pie with rum sauce ala mode. Hopefully I have a loooooooooooong time to make this crucial decision.

It’s on my wish list to persuade some of my blogger friends to come up with Last Suppers using links to their own recipes. So stay tuned boys and girls. This is an interactive blog, so readers please feel free to jump into the pool with your input. The sky is blue. The sun is yellow. The water is warm.
